Coming off the heels of the highest harvests in more than a decade for mule deer and elk, it was no surprise that the 2016 fall hunting season was no disappointment. This year’s deer and elk hunters at Waters Edge enjoyed an outstanding season rifle season. 27 deer hunters camped at the park tagged 24 deer (23 mule, 1 whitetail) boasting a success rate 89%. This well surpassed the 2015 overall success rate of 46% for the same two units (21 and 21A). Of the 24 deer taken, 15 were mature four points or better.

Elk Hunting for the Record Books

Much like deer, the 2016 elk season was one for the record books. 17 elk hunters were able to tag 10 elk of which 7 were mature 5×5’s and 6×6 bulls. Again, this 59% success rate for elk hunters at Waters Edge far surpassed the 2015 overall rate of 27% for the same units.
